Australian Bruna Papandrea’s production company Made Up Stories has snapped up the rights to bestselling novel The Favourite Sister

Deadline Hollywood reports Papandrea, a driving force behind hit TV series Big Little Lies will develop US author  Jessica Knoll’s book into a television series, in partnership with Endeavor Content.

It’s the second Knoll text to be converted to screen by Papandrea, after her and actress Reese Witherspoon’s company Pacific Standard pounced on the rights to Luckiest Girl Alive before the author’s debut offering hit shelves in 2015. Luckiest Girl Alive is set to be adapted into a feature film.

The Favourite Sister is a darkly comedic thriller, blending reality TV drama and murder. The narrative centres on two sisters, who take their sibling rivalry to the next level in the reality TV realm of backstabbing and social media attacks, as part of an ambitious pack of women on the show. Only one sister survives the experience.

Following the announcement of the acquisition, Papandrea said in Deadline: “I am thrilled to be re-teaming with Jessica on her razor-sharp and wildly entertaining second novel. I deeply admire her boldness of vision and her eagerness to challenge the status quo of how women are allowed to behave in their own stories. I am so excited to shepherd these wildly complex female characters to the screen.”

Knoll added: “I strive to create characters as fierce and powerful as Bruna, an honour to work with her again.”
